A little on Physiotherapy…

Physiotherapy is a health care service dedicated to assessing, restoring and/or maintaining optimal physical function.

Physiotherapists diagnose and treat patients of all ages, from infants to senior citizens, who suffer from health problems, disorders or injuries that may limit their ability to work, move or perform normal functional activities.

Physiotherapists are mainly concerned with the rehabilitation of physical impairments and disabilities and in promoting increased mobility, functional ability and a better quality of life.

It is also the goal of a physiotherapist to work with individuals who are at risk of loss of mobility to prevent it before it occurs, by developing a treatment plan for healthier and more active lifestyles.

The process begins with a thorough initial assessment. The Physiotherapist will take a thorough health history of a patient and complete a physical examination to arrive at a diagnosis and establish a treatment plan. A Physiotherapists treatment plan usually includes prescription of exercises as well assisting with specific exercises, manual therapy, postural education and  physical manipulation.

Physiotherapy can help restore normal body function. Our Physiotherapists can treat you for:

– Specific injuries, muscle strains and tears, joint sprains, loss of movement in a joint and chronic pain.

– Pre and post-operative orthopaedic procedures, arthritis, acute and chronic sports injuries, back and neck pain, fractures, sprains, strains, spinal injuries and amputations.

– Age related conditions such as osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s disease, arthritis, balance disorders, cancer, hip and joint replacement and incontinence.

– Neurological disorders including, ALS, brain injury, cerebral palsy, Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT), multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, spinal cord injury and stroke.
