When and where is PRN Care available?

PRN Care appointments are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Currently we operate in Accra, but will soon be expanding nationwide. We aim to have a practitioner to your door within two hours.

What happens if a practitioner takes more than two hours to get to me?

We make every effort to ensure a practitioner will arrive at your door within a two hour window. However, there are rare circumstances outside our control where demand exceeds practitioner supply, and therefore the waiting time may exceed two hours.

How long is a standard appointment?

Appointments are 20 to 30 minutes long. Within that time you can have multiple ailments seen to, to make the most of your time with the practitioner. If you need a longer appointment, extra time is also available – just speak to your practitioner or call our office.

How much does an appointment cost?

Prices vary depending on time of day, and whether it is a weekday, weekend or public holiday as well as the service required. For more information about our pricing click on our pricing page to find out more.

How quickly can I get an appointment?

Appointments are available on demand, and the practitioner can be with you as soon as 45 minutes after booking on the app (NB: sometimes it can take longer than that). PRN Care practitioners will notify you when they are on their way so you know when to expect them. You are also able to book a pre-scheduled appointment up to 48 hours in advance.

Can I get an appointment if it’s an emergency?

If you require emergency treatment, please attend your local Accident and Emergency department. We do not treat emergency conditions.

What will happen if the practitioner I call via the app decides I need to go to A&E?

If, after you have been assessed in person by one of our practitioners, they decide that you need to go to A&E, you will be directed in the appropriate fashion. If the practitioner speaks to you on the telephone first, and directs you to A&E before seeing you, you will be charged half the price depending on how long they spend with you on the phone.

After the appointment, where are my notes stored?

Your notes will be stored on our encrypted servers, using industry-leading security protocols. We will also send a copy of your appointment notes by email, so you can share them with your regular doctor.

Can practitioners supply medication during the appointment?

PRN Care practitioners can give medication during an appointment, and they can also prescribe medications once you have been assessed. You can take the prescription to your local pharmacy or have it delivered to your door.

Can practitioners prescribe medications?

Yes, however we do not prescribe controlled drugs: this includes sleeping pills, benzodiazepines and some opiate-based painkillers. You will be given a paper prescription, which you can take to your local pharmacy. We can also arrange to have your prescription delivered to your door.

Can I get medication delivered via the service?

Yes – in most cases this will incur an additional cost, including the price of the medication. The service will take between one and four hours, to be delivered during the day.

Does PRN Care accept insurance?

PRN Care practitioners cannot currently accept co-payment from private health insurance plans, but we plan to add this service in due course.

Can my practitioner refer me to a specialist after they’ve seen me?

Yes, once you have been assessed your PRN Care practitioners can organise a referral to either a government hospital or a private care provider. If you would like your doctor to be involved in ongoing care following the referral, please let your PRN Care practitioner have your doctor details. This will ensure that your doctor knows that you have been referred; and that after your appointment with the specialist, the doctor will receive a letter about their findings.

If you do not want your doctor to know you are being referred, we will direct the specialist to liaise with you directly. PRN Care does not provide ongoing care following the referral, therefore we strongly advise that you have a doctor in place following your referral. A referral letter is charged at an additional 25GHC.

What happens after a referral?

Once you have been seen by a specialist, any ongoing care required will occur between your specialist and you, and your doctor if you so wish. PRN Care does not currently provide integrated ongoing care following the referral.

Does PRN Care issue sick/fit to work notes?

PRN Care practitioners can issue sick/fit to work notes if deemed necessary.

How do I pay for the appointment?

Payment is made seamlessly by mobile money transfer, credit card, debit card or Apple Pay, Express Pay through the PRN Care app or online. You will receive a receipt via email for your reference.

What happens if I need to cancel my appointment?

If you cancel the appointment within 10 minutes of booking, then you will not be charged. If you cancel more than 10 minutes after booking, you will be charged 50% of the appointment fee.
